You or your partner may joke about how loudly you snore at night, but the root cause of snoring is no laughing matter. It’s the most common symptom of obstructive sleep apnea, a serious condition that can harm your systemic health and even lead to a shortened lifespan. Obstructive sleep apnea is characterized by repeated cessations in breathing during sleep due to a blockage of the airway. This is commonly a result of soft tissue or the tongue that has collapsed back while you are in a relaxed sleep state. Preventing these tissues from collapsing using non-invasive oral appliances is the first step to treating sleep apnea. For more severe cases of obstructive sleep apnea, we reposition the jaw or modify the soft tissues to create a more open airway.
We’re one of the only practices in the North Boston area to offer such a comprehensive and specialized list of treatment options for sleep apnea and have helped countless patients experience better sleep and a better quality of life. With training focused solely on the oral and maxillofacial regions, we’re experts in advanced techniques that give you life-changing functional and aesthetic improvements. If you have signs of sleep apnea, contact our oral surgeons today for a consultation.
Custom oral appliance that keeps the lower jaw and tongue in a forward position so they cannot fall backward and block the airways during sleep.
Appliance worn over the nose that provides a continuous flow of air to the lungs with enough pressure to keep the tissues and tongue from blocking the airway.
Realigning, restructuring, or moving upper and lower jaws and surrounding structures (tissues and tongue) forward to enlarge the airway and throat.
Shortening or remodeling the soft palate (upper, back portion of the mouth), removing the tonsils, and partly removing the uvula to widen the airway.
Reducing or removing the uvula at the back of the mouth using a laser, to minimize snoring and widen the upper airways.
Controlled heating of the soft tissue in the upper back portion of the throat using a radiofrequency probe to cause scarring that tightens and reduces the tissue.
